Holy Baptism

Holy Baptism is one of the two sacraments. The other sacrament is the Lord's Supper, also known as Holy Communion or the Eucharist.

Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s body, the Church. It is the foundation of our Christian identity, symbolizing the death (drowning) of our old selves, and our being raised to new life in Christ.

Whether you are baptized at the 10:30 a.m. service  or in a family service on a Sunday afternoon, Holy Baptism is a bold, public declaration of one’s faith. In the case of infant baptism, a commitment to raise your child so there would never be a day when they did not know the Lord is boldly proclaimed as well.

“Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble." (The Prayer Book, page 298)

2017 Dates for Holy Baptism at St. Richard’s are:

First Sunday after the Epiphany: the Baptism of the Lord, Sunday, January 8, 2017

The Great Vigil of Easter, Saturday, April 15 at 8:00 pm

The Fourth Sunday of Easter, May 7 at 10:30 am

Pentecost, June 4 at 10:30 am

Trinity Sunday, June 11 at 10:30 am

All Saints, Wednesday, November 1 at 6:30 pm

At times, and due to several personal circumstances, parents and godparents request our clergy to baptize their children on different days and in other locations than what has been published. Unopposed to “private” baptisms and always trusting the work of the Holy Spirit, our Rector considers each of these requests as they are made.

Holy Communion Course

All children are welcome to receive Holy Communion, and at St. Richard’s parents and their children are equipped to talk about its meaning together.  This family friendly course is intended for children and their parents. We want to make sure parents are well equipped as the spiritual leads in their child’s life, especially in this way. We'll offer this course to all children and their parents every summer.  Look for more details on dates and time here and in our Order of Service as summertime approaches.

Confirmation is a mature public commitment to Christ. It takes place when the bishop recognizes “decided” Christians. In the Book of Acts, God moves powerfully in the lives of His sons and daughters as they are baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And the Prayer Book describes how baptized Christians are expected to make this mature commitment, especially in our tribe called the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.

Have you confirmed your faith?

Bishop Doyle will preside over confirmation at St. Richard’s on September 4, 2016.  If you are interested, email Father Stuart at stuart@saintrichards.org.

If you think about it, it is more likely that you moved to this side of Austin for love than for work. Interested in getting married at St. Richard's? There's not a more potent sacramental rite!
