A MUSICAL FEAST CONCERT SERIES presents the Republic of Texas Big Band on SUNDAY, March 8th at 5:00 P.M. in the Nave!
Dancing in the aisles is STRONGLY encouraged at this family-friendly concert, as the Republic of Texas Big Band’s members sashay back onto our stage!
Band leader Kent Dugan played in the L.A. area for over 30 years with such greats as Donald O’Connor, Mel TormĂ©, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, and the Temptations. He brought his own brand of traditional big band jazz and swing to the Austin area about 15 years ago.
Republic of Texas Big Band members all hold down day jobs as professionals in various fields, and play music on the side. According to Kent, “Traditional big band charts require considerable rehearsal time, and everyone in the sections has to be in agreement about how to play these charts. Playing these “oldies” is a quite precise skill, and the band has done a good job learning this.”
The 17-member crew maintains high standards, but most of all, they want to share the joy with audiences of all ages. “We want to have fun and provide listening and dancing pleasure wherever we go,” Kent says. “We don’t need much of an excuse to play. It’s what we do.”
