MUSIC MINISTRY
Join us in making music at St. Richard’s! We welcome singers of all ages, ringers and instrumentalists (classical and contemporary). Please contact Sara Burden-McClure, our Director of Music, at sara@saintrichards.org , and we’ll get you involved right away!
Adult Choir
The Adult Choir sings a variety of genres at the 10:30 am worship service. In addition to helping lead hymns and service music, the choir often prepares special anthems related to the readings of the day. Anthem styles range widely, from Gregorian chant, Baroque and classical to gospel, contemporary and jazz. Add to the beauty of our services, build your own musical skills in God’s service, and delve into the relationship of our music and sacred texts. We welcome age 12 on up, and no audition is necessary! Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7-8:30 pm, mid-August through early June. We also meet at 9:45 Sunday mornings to review the day’s music.
Bell Choir
Our fledgling bell choir is restarting, and we are excited to get back to ringing! Now is a perfect time for those new to bells to join, as we will be doing easy repertoire for several months as we build our skills. We meet Wednesday evenings in the music room from 6-7:15 p.m. Currently this ensemble is primarily comprised of adults new to ringing; we welcome all levels, from beginners to experienced ringers, and also encourage youth age 10 and up to join us.
Instrumentalists
Do you play brass, strings, woodwinds, percussion, keyboard or guitar? Comfortable playing in public? We are eager to involve you in both instrumental solos and small ensembles! Musicians of all ages and levels are invited to help in leading our 10:30 a.m. traditional worship service.
Children’s Choir
We’re just getting started, so this is a great time for children age 6-11 to join! Our next singing event will be special music for Lessons & Carols (December 20 in our 10:30 AM service). As our numbers grow, our goal will be to sing monthly September through May at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.
Summer Choir
From mid-June til mid-August, the Adult Choir takes a break. In its place we have the Summer Choir, a non-auditioned singing ensemble for students age 10 and up, our regular singers, and adults who want to sing but can’t commit to a whole year. The music is light and easy, and … no choir robes at this hot time of year! Pick your Sundays, and join us at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary to learn the day’s anthem!
A Musical Feast Concert Series
A Musical Feast Concert Series began in 1997 as an effort to give local musicians a good acoustic space in which to perform for people who wanted to listen to (rather than talk over) them, and to provide a pleasant opportunity for music lovers who couldn’t afford concert venues or get to clubs to simply come enjoy good music and give what they could in support. This monthly (usually) second-Sunday event moves to different host churches as situations warrant and is currently hosted by St. Richard’s Episcopal Church in Round Rock. It’s a true community event, bringing together a diverse collection of people to support and enjoy the work of local musicians. Visit our concert series page to see what’s coming up!
Want to get involved behind the scenes? We’d love to have monthly help in promoting performances, and day-of assistance (load-in and load-out, greeters, reception chefs and more)!
